Teaching Indigenous Ancestral Healing to Understand Identity
Cultivating Collective and Ancestral Knowledge to transform pedagogy and practice
¡Tiahui! Is an outgrowth of community-based education partnership programs working in bilingual communities with a focus on healthy identity development, environmental awareness, and community transformation through arts and culture.
¡Tiahui! Programs create culturally immersive environments, engaging community members in holistic and integrated experiences that reflect cultural knowledge and history; explore our roles in the present; and inspire action to create a better future.
The ¡Tiahui! Collective includes a core group of 10-20 Chicago-based educators, artists, and multi-generational, ceremonial Aztec dancers, collaborating across a network of cultural and community organizational representatives, and various children and youth out-of-school programs in area public and charter schools and centers.
This network began developing outdoor gatherings, “Tiahui Afuera (outside),” convening safely at area parks and forest preserves, for authentic experiential learning and exchange, and building family and community.
